Beginners and Intermediate Courses
For beginners we run an eight-week beginners' course, followed by an eight-week intermediate course designed to bring you from being a complete novice up to a standard where you can join in with general fencing at the club and take forward your training after that with individual coaching (if you wish). The course will cover footwork, and introduce you to the basic offensive and defensive positions.  As a beginner you will learn to fence with a foil, which provides you with the best all round fencing training; the other two weapons (which you may want to try out once you are proficient at foil) are epee and sabre.

You should come wearing clothing in which you can move easily (i.e. T-shirt, tracksuit bottoms or leggings and trainers) as all the equipment needed at this stage is provided by the club.  Courses start at 6.45pm with a warm up for the whole club, followed by beginners courses from 7.30-8.30pm and intermediate classes from 8.30-9.30pm.  After fencing, most club members congregate at a local pub - so you'll find it's a good way to socialise, as well as getting fit!

You can join a course on either a Monday or Wednesday evening. Course start dates for early 2002 are as follows:
  • Monday 4 February
  • Wednesday 6 February
  • Wednesday 3 April
  • Monday 8 April

  • Courses must be booked in advance and cost £65, which covers the eight weeks tuition plus loan of equipment.  For more information and/or to book a course, please call 020 7404 3859 or e-mail us.  Alternatively, download the course registration form here, and post it to us to book your place.
